Questions and answers

Short answers to the questions people ask most often. If yours isn't here, just ask.

Who do you work with?

Adults, couples and families who are in Florida, Colorado or Arizona at the time of our sessions. Teenagers can take part in family sessions with a parent's consent.

Do I have to live in Florida, Colorado or Arizona?

What matters is where you are during each session, not where you live. Therapists are licensed state by state, and I'm licensed in Florida, Colorado and Arizona, so you need to be in one of those states every time we meet. If you'll be traveling, tell me ahead of time and we'll plan around it.

Phone or Zoom: which is better?

Both work well. Video lets us see each other, which many people like. Others find it easier to talk without a camera. You can choose, and you can switch from one session to the next. More about online therapy.

Do I need a Zoom account?

No. I send you a link before each session, and you join with one click from a computer, tablet or phone. The free Zoom app makes it smoother, but it isn't required. The sessions run on my HIPAA-compliant Zoom account.

How long is a session?

We agree on that together when you get in touch, before your first session, so the length fits you and what you'd like to work on.

How much does therapy cost?

A single session is $150. Packages of 3, 5 and 10 sessions cost less per session. See Fees for the details.

How do packages work?

A package is simply that number of sessions, paid in advance at a lower price per session. Package payments are not refunded, except for serious reasons that prevent you from continuing.

How do I pay?

By Zelle or PayPal. Through PayPal you can also pay with a credit or debit card or with Venmo, without a PayPal account. You'll receive the payment details when you book.

Do you take insurance?

No. My practice is private pay only, without insurance. One benefit: no diagnosis or details of your therapy are sent to an insurance company.

Can we talk in Swedish, Norwegian or Danish?

Yes. I offer sessions in English, Swedish, Norwegian and Danish. Many people find it easier to reach their feelings in their first language. Välkommen att skriva på svenska.

Is what I say confidential?

Yes. What you share in therapy stays between us. The law sets a few exceptions, for example when someone is at serious risk of harm, or when a child or vulnerable adult is being abused or neglected. I explain these clearly before we begin, and you can ask about them at any time.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on what you want to work on. Some people come for a handful of sessions to work through one clear problem; others prefer longer, deeper work. We talk about it at the start and check from time to time how it's going. You are always free to pause or stop.

Can my partner and I join from different places?

Yes. On Zoom, each of you can join the same session from your own device, even from different cities, as long as you are both in Florida, Colorado or Arizona at the time.

Do you prescribe medication?

No. Counselors and therapists don't prescribe medication. If medication might help, I can suggest talking to your doctor or a psychiatrist, and with your permission I can work alongside them.

Do you use astrology in therapy?

Only if you ask for it. My therapy rests on my training as a licensed counselor and family therapist. For clients who already find meaning in astrology, I can include it as a reflective, symbolic language. More about integrative therapy.

What if I'm in crisis?

Online therapy is not an emergency service. If you are in danger, call 911. For a mental health crisis, call or text 988, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, any time of day or night.

How do I start?

Send me a short message or call (352) 246-8463. A sentence or two about what you're looking for is enough; we'll talk about the rest privately.

Ready to talk?

Reaching out is often the hardest step. Send a short message or call, and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
